This story is told from the perspective of a mist-like alien which possesses the ability to invade the bodies of men. When miners land where the creature lives, it senses that they plan to denude its habitat so it possesses one to kill the others. The other humans stun it and it releases the dead body and invades another. It falls in love with the female human so it blasts off, marooning the last man on the surface. Since it kills the creatures it enters and manipulates the bodies through its life force, the woman withdraws from it as the corpse rots and begins to stink. After some time in seclusion, the body is so rotted that the alien knows it will not be of use to it much longer and wishes to look upon the woman one final time. She screams in horror and dies of fright when it shuffles into her room. The story ends with the mist alien drifting through the empty corridors of the dead spaceship.
