Professional History

Aldo Di Gennaro (Milan, April 20, 1938) is an Italian comic artist and illustrator.

Life and Works

He started working in 1956 as a member of the Dami studio. In 1962 he started his long collaboration with Corriere dei piccoli drawing many series including Il treno nel sole (The Train in the Sun) Il piccolo cow-boy (The Small Cowboy), Piccole donne (Small Women), Fortebraccio and many other self-contained stories. In 1974 he created the series Il Maestro (The Master), scripted by Milo Milani.

He dedicated himself, in the following years, almost exclusively to illustration. He did a significant amount of work for publisher Rizzoli drawing books covers, as well as magazine illustrations for La Domenica del Corriere (Courier Sunday). He also collaborated with Notizie Letterarie (Literary News) magazine for Club degli Editori.

Among the relatively few comic works are some stories for CorrierBoy.

He also collaborated intensely with Sergio Bonelli Editore drawing the illustrations that went along with articles published in Collana Almanacchi (Almanac Series).

He has won numerous awards: Premio Montereggio for Cover of the Year (1985), Premio "Caran D'Ache" for Best Illustrator (1996), Targa a un Maestro del Fumetto e dell'Illustrazione (Plate to a Master of Comics and Illustration) (2001), Premio "Fumo di China" (2002). In 2002 he also won the ANAFI award "for his lengthy work in the comics and illustration fields, thereby impressing and influencing younger colleagues and proving his mastery in both fields, mastery which can be viewed in this exposition here at the 28th Reggio Emilia Comics Exposition".

In 2011 a personal exposition was dedicated to him at the Napoli Comicon and then at the Museo del Fumetto e dell'Immagine (The Comics and Image Museum) in Lucca.

In 2012 he is newly collaborating with Sergio Bonelli Editore, as cover artist for Le Storie (Stories) series.
