Professor Clarence Cobalt is denied advertising space in the Daily Planet by the editor. Cobalt is considered to be a quack doctor with a fake cure for infantile paralysis. Clark Kent and Lois Lane are sent to investigate his clinic where they meet a patient who was given sugar pills instead of real medicine. Lois goes undercover to expose the phony doctor. When Cobalt and his assistant Grafton discover the ploy, they kidnap Lois (her 5th kidnap) and Clark. While locked in a separate room, Clark uses his powers to escape and rescues Lois as Superman. Then he also steals a safe containing the clinic's patient records, which detail Cobalt’s illegal activities.
Clark returns to the room, without the crooks knowing he escaped. They release him when they see the article Lois has written, exposing them. Worried that they have already become exposed, the doctors visit the families of their patients and retrieve the fake medicine from them. Superman contacts the families also and informs them of the scam. Angered by the doctor’s manipulation, the families try to lynch Cobalt and his assistant. Pierre takes a tumble down a steep cliff, breaking his leg. Pep sets his friend's leg and carries him through the snowy mountains until they find a cave that can be used for shelter. A bear hibernating inside attacks them, but Pep's quick shot downs the beast. A fire is built using the sticks and twigs the bear had made a nest out of. The bear's body is cut into slices of meat to cook over the fire. Pierre notes there wasn't enough to sustain them both over a long period, so Pep leaves him for now, heading out to find the trade post.
A long hike through cold, unforgiving weather leaves Pep exhausted by the time he reaches the trading post. Two men inside help him warm up with a hot bowl of soup. Pep tells them about Pierre still trapped out there, so one of the men lends out his dog sled to help Pep bring Pierre back safe. Wolves surround the cave when Pep returns. He takes out his gun and fires, scaring them off. But what was the fate of Pierre? Thanks to the fire and a large branch-turned-club, Pierre was able to keep the wolves at bay. Securing his friend snugly onto the sled, Pep mushes the dogs back to the Trading Post, where Pierre can get the attention he needs to make a full recovery!
